Privacy Policy for Bond
We at Bond ("we", "our" or "us") respect your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect and why when you use our application ("Services").
1. Information We Collect
We only collect what's necessary to make Bond work.
- Account Information: When you create an account, we store your email address and credentials. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we store your email and unique social account ID to link your account.
- Your Content: We store the content you create for your profile, which includes your three picked interests, your sub-interests, and your three answers to the interest prompts. We also store the content of the messages you send and receive in your chats.
- Location Data: To calculate and display your distance from other users, we require your device's location. This location data is stored on our servers to power the matching feature. However, we will never share your exact, precise location with other users or any third party.
- Notification Token: To send you push notifications for new messages, we store your device's unique notification token (FCM token).
- Technical Data: We collect basic log data, like the time of your requests, to help us troubleshoot and improve the service.
- Communications With Us: If you email us for support, we keep a record of that communication.
What We Don't Collect: We do not collect or store your real name, phone number, photos, or any other personally identifiable information beyond your email address. Bond is designed for anonymity.
2. Anonymity and Random Nicknames
Bond is built around anonymous conversations. When you start a chat with another user, both participants are assigned random, auto-generated nicknames (like "Golden Unicorn" or "Brave Dingo"). These nicknames:
- Are randomly generated from over 110,000 possible combinations
- Are unique to each conversation
- Ensure your identity remains private throughout the conversation
- Change for every new chat you start
While we have over 110,000 nickname combinations, in rare cases you may see the same nickname appear in different conversations in your chat list. However, these are different conversations with different users.
Other users will never see your email address, real name, or any identifying information. Only your profile content (interests and answers) and approximate distance are visible.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information for one purpose: to run and improve the service.
- To operate the app, authenticate you, and show you other user profiles.
- To calculate the semantic "vibe" between you and other users for ranking.
- To facilitate your anonymous chats with randomly generated nicknames.
- To send you essential notifications.
- To troubleshoot bugs and improve the app.
- To comply with legal obligations and prevent misuse of the service.
4. How We Share Your Information
We are not in the business of selling your data. Sharing is limited and for the sole purpose of making the app function.
- With Other Users: Your profile card—which includes your answers, your selected interests, and your approximate distance from them—is visible to other users on the platform. Your email, real name, and any personally identifiable information are never shared. In chats, you appear only as a random nickname.
- With Service Providers: We use third-party providers for essential services like hosting (Hetzner) and push notifications (Firebase). These providers only process your data on our behalf and do not have access to your chat content or profile information beyond what's necessary for their service.
- For Legal Reasons or Business Transfers: We may disclose your information if required by law or as part of a major business transaction like a merger. This is standard practice.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to access, update, or delete your personal information. You can manage most of your profile information directly in the app. For account deletion or other requests, please contact us at alidahud@gmail.com.
When you delete your account, all of your data—including your profile, messages, and account information—will be permanently deleted from our servers.
6. Security and Retention
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no online service is 100% secure.
Data Retention: We retain your information as long as you have an active account. Your profile data, messages, and chat history are stored until you:
- Delete your account through the app
- Request data deletion by contacting us
- Are required by law to have your data deleted
Once deleted, your data is permanently removed from our servers and cannot be recovered.
7. International Data Transfers
Our servers are located in Germany. By using Bond, you agree to the processing and storage of your information in Germany.
For users in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, the data controller is Ali Dahud, 7100, Szekszárd, Hungary, Rákóczi utca 67.
8. Social Logins (Google & Apple)
When you use Google or Apple Sign-In, we only store your email address and your unique account ID. We use this information solely for authentication and to link your social account to your Bond profile. We do not request access to your contacts, files, or any other personal data from these services. Your social login information is never displayed to other users—you remain anonymous on the platform.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes.
